Where is The Money!

Losing a loved one is difficult enough without the added stress of a "treasure hunt." However, many people—especially of older generations—distrusted banks or simply preferred the security of a physical stash.

If you are settling an estate, here is a categorized guide on where to look for hidden cash, bonds, or valuables.

📂 Common Furniture & Household Stashes

  • The Bedroom: Check inside pillowcases, between mattresses and box springs, or even within the lining of a headboard.

  • Desks & Dressers: Look inside drawers, taped to the underside of drawers, or hidden in hollowed-out furniture legs.

  • Closets: Search through coat pockets, old purses, wallets, shoe boxes, and even inside rolled-up socks.

🖼️ Wall & Decor Hidden Spots

  • Behind the Scenes: Check behind the backing of framed photos, paintings, and mirrors.

  • Wall Cavities: Look for loose "dummy" electrical outlets or panels that seem out of place.

  • Library: Flip through the pages of books (especially Bibles) and check inside empty movie or CD cases.

❄️ Kitchen & Utility Areas

  • The Freezer: It’s a classic cliché for a reason. Look for money wrapped in foil or tucked into "decoy" food containers.

  • Pantry: Check inside empty coffee cans, flour jars, or fake "stash cans" designed to look like soda or soup.

  • Workshops: Search through toolboxes, sewing kits, and storage bins in the garage or attic.

🎹 Unusual & Structural Locations

  • Musical Instruments: Check inside piano benches or within the bodies of guitars and pianos.

  • Underfoot: Look for loose floorboards, removable stair treads, or lumps under the wall-to-wall carpeting.

  • The Great Outdoors: If they were a gardener, check inside sheds, under heavy flowerpots, or even buried in specific spots in the yard.

*Pro-Tip:

Always handle items gently during your search. Valuable documents or brittle currency can be  damaged if you move too quickly through old boxes or clothing.
